Luigi Galvani was born on 9th September 1737 in Bologna, the city where he spent nearly his whole life.
As was customary at that time, he first studied Letters and Philosophy at university. He then got a degree in Philosophy and Medicine in 1759. He attended Gaetano Tacconi’s lectures in Philosophy and Surgery, Domenico Maria Gusmano Galeazzi’s in anatomy, and those of Jacopo Bartolomeo Beccari and Giuseppe Monti in Chemistry and Natural History. In 1762 he married Lucia Galeazzi, his teacher’s daughter, who became his life-long affectionate partner and precious collaborator.
