Alessandro Volta, man and scientist

8. Honour and Glory
With fame came honour and also burdens. In 1801 Volta presented the Battery to the Institut de France, in the presence of First Consul Napoleon, who honoured him with the Gold Medal.
When Napoleon later became Emperor, he appointed Volta as Senator of the newly constituted Kingdom of Italy (1809) and afterwards conferred on him the title of Count (1810).
