Introduction – Rationale of the program

Participants in “The MAP Project”

Partnership composition and contribution
The project is coordinated by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The other partnership Universities are the University of Pavia, the University of Madrid, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and the University of Oldenburg. All partners are very interested in teacher education and in teacher training through distance learning and ICT technologies. Also, all the above institutions provide initial and in-service training for teachers.
The project work plan has been structured in order to support the coo-ordination of all activities towards producing a concrete result in Science Education in each country.

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Pedagogical Department of Primary Education, Science, Technology and Environmental Section, Ditactics of Science (professor Panos Kokkotas) is responsible for the total co-ordination of the project and the synthesis of the research outcomes, the development of the curriculum and the website planning.

The University of Pavia, Department of Physics “Alessandro Volta”, History and Education of Science Section (professor Fabio Bevelaqcua), is responsible for the research that will be carried out in Italy, the research in History of Scienceabout the “falling bodies” explanatory theories and the digitalisation of the material concerning “falling bodies” explanatory theories. While it contributes to the development, implementation, evaluation, revision of the curriculum and website planning and organization. In addition, in cooperation with the co-ordinating institution applies and supports the in-servise training program for the teachers within the country area.The Pavia History of Science Research Group offers their advice and support to all the other partcipating research groups on History of Science issues.

The Aristotle University of Thessalonki, School of Education (lecturer Fanny Seroglou) is responsible for the research that will be carried out in northern Greece, while it contributes to the development (the Thessaloniki research group contributes to the transformation of the historical material into instructional material in the context of science literacy), evaluation, revision of the curriculum and website planning and organization. In addition, in cooperation with the co-ordinating institution will apply and support the in-servise training program for the teachers within the region.

The Oldenburg University, (professor Falk Riess) contributes in the stage of “research of teachers’ needs and beliefs” for German teachers. Also they contributes with the “inclined plane” and other ineresting replicas in the stage of collection of historical educational material and will undertake the digitalization of the material. While it contributes to the development, implementation, evaluation, revision of the curriculum and website planning and organization. The Oldenburg University undertakes the in service course of German teachers and evaluation of the educational material. In addition, in cooperation with the co-ordinating institution applies and supports the in-servise training program for the teachers within the country area.

The University of Madrid (professor Antonio Moreno Gonzalez) is responsible for the research that will be carried out in Spain, the research in History of Science about biographies of scientists relative with the “fall of bodies” theories and the cultural environment in which they have been developed and the digitalisation of these materials. While it contributes to the development, implementation, evaluation, revision of the curriculum and website planning and organization. In addition, in cooperation with the co-ordinating institution applies and supports the in-servise training program for the teachers within his country area.
